چکیده

Retinopathy of prematurity is a disease that affects the eyes of many babies who are prematurely born. If the retinopathy is not detected in the days following birth, blindness may occur. Studies have demonstrated that by observing the blood vessels within the retina, the disease can be quantified at an early stage, and early treatment can save the baby’s eyes. We have developed a new tool to assess retinopathy of prematurity. Our technique captures the image of the retina to extract and quantify both tortuosity and dilation of blood vessels. Our approach demonstrates a 80% sensitivity and 92% specificity in the prediction of retinopathy compared to experts, shows significantly reduced diagnosis time, and features clinical integration via speech recognition and glare detection.

Retinal Blood Vessel Region Exploration by Hybrid Method Segmentation

Accurate segmentation and evaluation of the anatomical and pathological features of retinal vessels are critical for the diagnosis and study of many ocular diseases. These include retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). ROP is a disorder of the retinal blood vessels that is a major cause of vision loss in premature neonates. It is proposed a methodology for extracting the vascular network in the huma...

Characterization of changes in blood vessel width and tortuosity in retinopathy of prematurity using image analysis

Many retinal diseases are characterised by changes to retinal vessels. For example, a common condition associated with retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is so-called plus disease, characterised by increased vascular dilation and tortuosity. This paper presents a general technique for segmenting out vascular structures in retinal images, and characterising the segmented blood vessels. The segment...

Retinopathy of prematurity: An update on screening and management.

Retinopathy of prematurity is a proliferative disorder of the developing retinal blood vessels in preterm infants. The present practice point reviews new information regarding screening and management for retinopathy of prematurity, including the role of risk factors in screening, optimal scheduling for screening examinations, pain management, digital retinal photography and antivascular endoth...

Automatic Tortuosity-Based Retinopathy of Prematurity Screening System

Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is an infant disease characterized by increased dilation and tortuosity of the retinal blood vessels. Automatic tortuosity evaluation from retinal digital images is very useful to facilitate an ophthalmologist in the ROP screening and to prevent childhood blindness. This paper proposes a method to automatically classify the image into tortuous and non-tortuous. ...

Hypoxia-Induced Retinal Neovascularization in Zebrafish Embryos: A Potential Model of Retinopathy of Prematurity

Retinopathy of prematurity, formerly known as a retrolental fibroplasia, is a leading cause of infantile blindness worldwide. Retinopathy of prematurity is caused by the failure of central retinal vessels to reach the retinal periphery, creating a nonperfused peripheral retina, resulting in retinal hypoxia, neovascularization, vitreous hemorrhage, vitreoretinal fibrosis, and loss of vision. We ...
